Air Création and Eva Leroi join forces to recycle industrial offcuts
Posted on Wednesday, February 26, 2025
At Air Création, our commitment to the environment is not limited to designing sustainable ultralights. We are constantly seeking to reduce our impact by optimizing the use of materials. With this in mind, last June we initiated a collaboration with designer Eva Leroi to give a second life to technical fabric scraps from our production.
Turning constraints into opportunities
Eva Leroi is a designer who sees industrial constraints as a formidable field for innovation. Aware of the impressive quantities of materials wasted by industry, she explores their potential to create objects with functional and sustainable design.
As part of our collaboration, she studied the technical fabric scraps we use to manufacture our microlight sails. Thanks to her research, she was able to highlight the unique properties of Dacron and Mylar, two materials that are light, resistant and well-suited to the creation of design objects.
From microlight to luminaire: the birth of the Tulipe and Rosa lamps
This synergy has given rise to two unique lamps that are both aesthetically pleasing and responsible:
- Tulipe: Inspired by the world of aeronautics, this light, airy floral suspension takes its design cues from the microlight wings from which it springs.
- Rosa: A retro-style, eco-designed luminaire conceived as an origami. Its modular structure of six identical petals allows infinite assembly and disassembly, without glue or screws.
Integrated, sustainable production
We have integrated the manufacture of these luminaires directly into our industrial process. Dacron and Mylar parts are cut at the same time as our sails, optimizing materials and reducing waste.
Final assembly and marketing of the lamps is then handled by Eva Leroi. To date, 38 Tulipe and 38 Rosa lamps have been produced, representing the reuse of 14 m² of Dacron and 12 m² of Mylar.
A sustainable approach for the future
By collaborating with Eva Leroi, we are proving that it is possible to transform industrial offcuts into high value-added objects. This initiative is fully in line with our vision of more responsible, environmentally-friendly production.
We will continue to explore new avenues to reduce our impact and promote sustainable solutions. Every material saved is a victory for the planet.
